Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport has confirmed exciting news for travelers: six major international airlines are set to introduce new flight routes to Bali beginning in October 2024. Angkasa Pura I, the state-owned company managing I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, has reported that six foreign airlines have expressed interest in opening direct flights to Bali. The General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I, Handy Heryudhitiawan, stated, “We are open to any airline; anyone who wants to fly here, please. The important thing is that the time slot is available, and our capacity matches the type of aircraft.”

Among the interested airlines are three from South Korea: Air Busan, Jeju Air, and T’way Airlines. Starlux Airlines from Taiwan, which has previously operated flights to Jakarta, is also planning to fly to Bali. Additionally, airlines from Russia and Uzbekistan have shown interest in establishing direct flight routes to Bali.

Heryudhitiawan mentioned that preparations are underway, with Starlux Airlines possibly starting their service as early as October during the winter season.

Bali is on track to exceed its 2024 tourism targets, with a goal of welcoming 7 million international tourists. By the end of April, the island had already received 4 million international arrivals. With the peak season in full swing, and a million international visitors expected over the Christmas and New Year holidays alone, Bali is set to be busier than ever.

To accommodate the growing demand for travel, efforts are being made to secure more direct flights from key regions, including South Korea, Taiwan, Russia, and China. There is also a focus on establishing routes that better serve tourists from Europe and North America.

On June 26, Bali Airport celebrated the launch of a new direct flight service between Abu Dhabi and Denpasar, operated by Etihad Airways. The service will run four times a week, with the potential for increased frequency based on demand.

Heryudhitiawan emphasized the importance of this new route, stating, “We believe that the addition of routes by Etihad will further establish Bali as a world-class destination and improve services for our users. We appreciate all parties involved in making Etihad Airways’ maiden flight a reality.”

Etihad Airways’ entry is expected to open new market shares and enhance Bali’s connectivity with various international destinations. The collaboration is anticipated to be a long-term success, with hopes for Etihad to introduce further routes to Bali. For tourists planning their visit to Bali, these new flight routes will provide more convenient travel options.
